Sky follows up Heated Rivalry acquisition with another Crave original

Heated Rivalry is based on the Game Changers novels by Rachel Reid

Sky in the UK has acquired a slate of drama series for 2026-27, including the second season of Crave in Canada’s hit show Heated Rivalry and the Bell Media-owned streamer’s upcoming mystery thriller YAGA.

The eagerly anticipated second season of Heated Rivalry will arrive on Sky and its Now streaming service in the UK and Ireland in 2027.

Adapted from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers book series and created by Jacob Tierney, the queer sports drama is produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment and distributed by Sphere Abacus.

It sees Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie play two of the biggest stars in Major League Hockey who are bound by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic pull neither of them fully understands.

Sky has picked up another Crave drama currently in production, YAGA, produced by Front Street Pictures and Blink49 Studios, which reimagines the myth of ‘Baba Yaga’ in a small coastal town.

Based on the play by Kat Sandler, who serves as writer and showrunner, it will debut on Sky later this year.

Baba Yaga is co-directed by David Frazee and Rachel Talalay, executive produced by Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Carrie-Anne Moss, produced by Charles Cooper and also distributed by Sphere Abacus.

Sky has also acquired upcoming crime drama Superfakes, produced by A24 and Universal Studio Group’s UCP.

Starring and exec produced by Lucy Liu, the series follows a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.

Superfakes is created, written and showrun by Alice Ju. The exec producers are Benny Safdie, Josh Safdie, Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush for Central, Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke for 3 Arts, Karena Evans and Jim McKay.

Also on Sky’s acquisitions slate is The ‘Burbs, a series inspired by the 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name but set in present-day suburbia. The ‘Burbs is created, written and exec produced by Celeste Hughey, alongside writer and exec producer Rachel Shukert, and director and exec producer Nzingha Stewart.

The series is also exec produced by Keke Palmer, Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door, Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner and Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment, and co-exec producer Dana Olsen. UCP is the production company and NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution distributes.

Finally, Sky has acquired espionage thriller Ponies. Set in Moscow in 1977, the series follows two women who become CIA operatives to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery of their husbands’ deaths in the USSR.

David Iserson serves as co-creator, co-writer, exec producer and showrunner, while Susanna Fogel serves as co-creator, director, co-writer and exec producer. Mike Daniels is exec producer and showrunner.

Other exec producers are Jessica Rhoades and Emilia Clarke, who also stars, alongside co-exec producers Katherine Bridle, Alison Mo Massey, Jared Ian Goldman and Rosa Handelman. The series is produced by Universal Television and distributed by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.
